Mulu Caves & Pinnacles (5D4N)

Day 01: Arrival Mulu National Park/ Deer & Lang’s Caves

Meet on arrival at Mulu Airport and transfer to Mulu Marriott Resort for check- in.

In the afternoon we will proceed about 3km walking through the timber plank walk for visiting Lang’s cave and Deer cave. Two of the cave are distinctly different cave situated 150metres apart in the Southern Hills area of the Park.

While Lang’s cave is the smallest of our 4 show caves, it has a spectacular display of stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, shawls and rim-stone pools. The geological development was influenced more by the action of standing ground water dissolving the limestone rather than an active stream passage eroding it.

In contrast, Deer cave is not only the biggest show cave at Mulu, it is also the largest cave passage in the world. A powerful underground river once flowed through this area, dissolving and eroding the limestone to create this incredible space. The massive Deer Cave’s passage is an over-whelming and awesome sight.

After visiting both of the caves, we will proceed back to Bat Observatory for watching the bats coming out from the Cave.

**Bats Exodus between 5.00pm until 6.30pm

Return back to the hotel late evening for overnight.

After breakfast, we will ascend Mt. Api to view the famous Pinnacles which consist of a series of 45-metre-high razor-sharp limestone spikes that tower above the surrounding vegetation. The trail is only 2.4 km in length but rises some 1,200 metres from Camp 5 to the viewpoint, passing through lowland dipterocarp forest before climbing steeply through moss forest. Here the trees are a lot smaller and everything is covered in slippery green moss. The last section of the trail is near vertical, with rope sections and 15 aluminium ladders strategically positioned to help with the climb. Usually fit and experienced trekkers should be able to reach the top in 2-3 hours. The not so fit but determined generally take around 4-5 hours. Most people spend an hour or so at the top before coming down. Packed lunch will be served at the viewpoint. The descent is actually more difficult and therefore takes longer, so the return trip can take anything from 5 to 10 hours depending on fitness level.
